Ever notice that the Beast in "Beauty and the Beast" is always, well, a beast, but still studly? Like an anthropomorphic Fabio. Lantern jawed, barrel chested with bulging muscle and a cute butt. An animal, but handsome, a good looking lion man with wavy long hair, so dreamy My version is sniveling, weird... freaky, more Cronenberg than Disney. Hence, a true test of love for Beauty, it's not just her warming to an overgrown teddy bear. If she could fall in love with the creature above, then that would really be something.

And he doesn't even stay like that, he becomes a handsome human at the end, which kinda defeats the whole purpose in my opinion. That is a real beast, I hope he stays that way.

I once wanted to make my own disgusting beast for my own beauty and the beast story, but since I always try to put in erotic sex scenes that would turn me on, I almost feel like I need to put in some more human qualities ...

Oh my gosh, I totally agree! The moral of the story is looking past appearances to see the true beauty inside. If the beast is already cute fluffy and lovable, then what is there to look past? People (especially girls) love big fluffy animals, so it would be relatively easy for a young woman to fall in love with a talking lion/werewolf/bison thing. It completely defeats the purpose of the story.

Now, if one made the beast a giant banana slug, or in your case a withered squinting demon, it would be a lot harder to fall in love with, wouldn't it? The test is more difficult, and the love is harder to come by, but that only makes it that much more worthwhile in the end.
